First
Annual Rainshadow Invitational Golf Tournament was held at Dungeness Golf
course!
(And
they didn’t even know it!)
The weather was a sweltering 50 degrees and no wind to be felt what
so ever. All three of this year’s competitors were focused and ready to
play. Dave Brasher and Jim Waters of Sequim and Les Hoyt of Belfair were
proud to pioneer this first annual event that was created to compliment
the prestigious Rainshadow Invitational Wrestling Tournament which had
just completed it’s 6th year of competition on Saturday.
The
golf tournament quietly started on the back 9 attempting not to draw too
much of a gallery. This plan worked perfectly.
The
golf play was almost as fierce as the wrestling that took place the two
previous days, as each golfer took dead aim with every shot. In fact the
contest was so intense that Brasher had to pull out after only twelve
holes. Apparently suffering from extreme fatigue and cramping in his
typing fingers (both of them) no doubt caused by the relentless pounding
on his keyboard as he kept the 270 wrestlers precisely recorded on bracket
sheets throughout the two previous days of wrestling, stopping only to eat
an occasional deviled egg or two. Fortunately his beautiful wife Monique
assisted him in this great task. Waters was hindered from scoring well
also. It seems he was quite distracted through the first 9 and beyond by a
constantly disappearing and repapering 3 wood from his golf bag. This
situation seemed to reside after approximately twelve holes. Feel free to
draw any conclusions that seem obvious to you there. Les Hoyt on the other
hand was unfazed by anything that took place. A veteran golfer and
wrestling coach that has seen it all, charged forward and never looked
back. He won the tournament with a score of 97 easily topping the triple
digit score of 113 posted by Waters and obviously beating the DNF posted
by Brasher.
It
was a great day had by all and the three dollars that were raised by this
tournament will go towards supporting the Sequim Wolves Wrestling team.
The 2nd Annual Rainshadow Invitational Golf
tournament will be held on January 4th 2004 and the promoters
expect that it will at least double in size. Watch your local paper and

web page for further details.
